Features

the brand story:

The Block Dock soap dish was born in Riverton, Southland and is Made in New Zealand. Founder Clare had personally come to the end of the line for soap-storing solutions as they always resulted in soggy soap. She calls it the Block Dock (a rhyme to remember) and what matters most to Clare is that you use it. In her own words, "Now it’s easy for us ALL to give up the bottle - switch and stay switched - using bars for bathing and beauty (and for the dishes and laundry and pets). And that way there’s no plastic waste off to landfill."

And kudos to Clare, who went about sourcing a natural rubber suction cup specifically for Biome customers and ensuring a PVC-free product for us.

dimensions:

The Block Dock is 5.6cm tall, 4.35cm deep and 8.45cm wide; fits bars up to 4cm in depth (the shortest side of your bar).

installation advice:

This 60mm natural rubber suction cup is solid and strong and once it suctions will hold super tight. It cannot be described as delicate, but it does its job very well.

It is best suited to glass, stainless steel and shower acrylic - because it may leave a mark on release (which you can remove with cream cleanser). It would pay to release and re-stick regularly to care for the surface beneath. Do not use this super strong sucker on a more delicate surface. It's the best option we can find for #plasticfree.

Use a slide and twist motion to get the head of the suction cup through the Block Dock's keyhole. Then wet its back and place where you want it - push very firmly on the suction cup's flat head toward the wall. Once it's attached, if you want, rock the Block Dock side-to-side, downward until the flat head is near the top of the keyhole. A bit of lather will help with the movement. It works perfectly fine sitting lower also. When you want to remove the Block Dock from its location, just pull the wee tab on the suction cup or pick at the edge to break the suction.

To remove the suction cup from the Block Dock you'll find it easily pops out from the round part of the keyhole when you use a peeling motion with your thumb. The trick is to relax while you do it!

Clare recommends owners regularly clean their block docks with hot water while in the shower or at the sink and periodically re-moisten the natural rubber suction cup and re-attach it to their surface. Natural rubber tends to dry out faster than PVC but is the best eco option.

end of life:

Natural rubber suction cup is biodegradable. Aluminium is recyclable at end of useful life.

    Pretty Dissapointed

I was a bit disappointed when I opened this, it was much smaller and felt way flimsier than I expected but this may be my own fault for not reading dimensions thoroughly. Its pretty flimsy attached to the wall and kind of jiggles on the suction cup, they give tips for sliding when your bar of soap is in but its just disappointing I thought it would be more sturdy and it doesnt actually fit my current bar of soap. I really liked the idea and supporting the cause and creator but would not spend 30$ on it again.

    dudded.

If you're the type of person who likes to spend time trimming blocks of soap to size, this is a great product. If you want to buy a standard cake of soap, chuck it in the holder and forget about it until the next time you need to buy one, don't buy this product.

Unfortunately, the holder tilts forward when it is mounted on the suction cup, so the soap ends up in the sink. Again, and again, and again.

The suction cup is nice and solid, so would buy again ... I think I'll use it to hang my dish scrubber from. The soap holder will go straight to recycling.

If you want to make a difference to the environment, donate the cost of this product to the Australian Youth Climate Coalition or to Seed Mob instead. Don't buy this. Investigate other soap holder options.
