  • Plastic Free

Take the next step with these strong, ethical, sun-grown (100% jute), naturally biodegradable supermarket shopping bags. These are real green bags - not petrochemical plastic versions - and they do not have any plastic lining either.

Features

The most eco-friendly green bag is made from 100% sustainable and biodegradable jute, no petrochemicals, no plastic lining.

Free from petrochemicals, sun-grown jute is a natural, stylish choice for the eco-aware. This attractive green bag is made from strong, heavy woven jute.

Some supermarkets are now stocking jute-looking bags also, but notice that the inside is still coated in plastic. The jute weave is loose to keep down costs and so it has to be coated in plastic inside. That means it can not be buried in your garden to biodegrade.

you are making a difference:

  • Jute is a long, soft, shiny plant fibre that can be spun into coarse strong threads. It is 100% naturally biodegradable and is one of the most abundant natural fibres.
  • Unlike polypropylene 'green bags' this bag is free from synthetic petrochemicals and at the end of its useful life will safely biodegrade.
  • Responsibly-made in Bangladesh with BRAC, the largest Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) in the world. BRAC supports the livelihoods of over 70% (100 million) of Bangladesh’s population through its social, health and education programs. Sustainable employment is provided for 35,000 underprivileged rural artisans, 85% of whom are women.
  • The artisans who make these bags earn a wage, enabling them to aim to lift their families above subsistence levels.

features:

  • All bags are handworked so small irregularities may appear.
  • Ethically sourced as well as being naturally recyclable, they are the "next step” for socially-concerned shoppers and retailers. Your business logo or corporate message can be printed onto the bags (minimum quantities apply).

dimensions:

32cm x 34cm plus handles. Natural colour available only.

    Everyday bag and produce bag

Love this gorgeous handmade jute bag! By fair trade BANG consortium it's made in Bangladesh and is completely compostable, so it breaks down very easily when returned into the soil. I love plant fibres compared to leather. The raw, earthy texture and colour tone of jute, brown and green bring nature's adventures into the home. Thank you Biome 🌿💚

    Fantastic and durable

I purchased 4 of these bags in excess of 5 years ago and they are fantastic. They are incredibly strong, hold far more than plastic grocery bags, and are of course great for the environment. Only recently have some of the bags started to fray a little on the handle from years of regular use but are still going strong. Only drawback is the jute does leave small fibres on some clothing.
