Little Veggie Patch Heirloom Seeds - Cornflower Polka Dot. These vintage heirloom seeds are beautifully packaged and will add a touch of nostalgia and variety to your garden and home. This is a delightful mix of colour and a semi-dwarf variety that grows just 30 to 45cm tall - half the regular size. It blooms earlier than many other varieties and appear in range of shades and colours, from white to pale pink and blues. Easy to grow. No postage to WA.

Features

Ensure your soil is nutrient rich with fertilizer a fortnight before planting. Likes a well-drained soil type. Well suited to full sun but doesn't mind afternoon shading. Sow directly into your patch when daytime temperatures regularly surpass 18-20 degrees. If still too cold, propagate in seed trays and transplant when conditions have improved. Cornflowers will attract an array of pollinators through their vivid, bright flowers.

Zone 1: October - December
Zone 2: August - December
Zone 3: August - January
Zone 4: April - July

Brand story

Australia has diverse climatic zones from the tropical far north to the cold of Tasmania so there may be some tweaking for where you live. In general, the cooler months with less harsh sun is the time for:

  • beans, broad beans and peas
  • bulbs like onion, shallots, garlic
  • Brassicas like broccoli, broccolini, cauliflower
  • tomatoes, eggplant
  • root vegetables like radish, beetroot, turnip and potato
  • spinach, salad greens, silverbeet
  • herbs, chives, coriander, parsley.

MOST IMPORTANT TIP: Just do it! Don't get caught up in not knowing what to do. Put some seeds in pots in a sunny spot and give it a go. Learn as you grow. Keep the water up and fertilise fortnightly with liquid seaweed.
