Passion Lilie

Founder and designer Katie Schmidt has created a fair trade and sustainable clothing line that features classic, streamlined silhouettes in unique hand block printed and hand woven fabrics. Her mission in life is to improve the world she lives in, and because of her love for design, she have chosen to do this through fashion. Katie has dedicated herself to working with producer groups in India that either hold a Fair Trade certificate or are small family run businesses that are closely vetted by Passion Lilie to ensure that they are meeting their standards for fair trade, these long-term relationships are based on transparency and trust. This work provides artisans with a sustainable and appropriate salary, job security, loans and financial assistance as needed, health care, and on the job free training; and means no child labor, safe working conditions, protection of the environment through water reduction, recycling, minimal energy consumption and using eco-friendly fabric dyes and organic cotton. Katie creates all the patterns, samples and technical drawings by hand. Her heart and soul go into every piece and her color inspiration for the prints comes from nature. Passion Lilie utilises hand block printing (a centuries old art form popular in India, China, and many other East Asian countries) along side Ikat and handwoven fabrics. Katie also works with children in New Orleans teaching them sewing skills and helping to inspire their creative side.
