Ingredients
- ¼ cup magnesium flakes
- ½ cup boiling water
- ¼ cup calendula petals, dried
- ¼ cup apricot kernel oil
- 2 tbsp beeswax
- 2 tbsp cocoa butter
- Glass storage jar with sealing lid (we used this one by Weck)
- Blender
Method
- Infuse the calendula petals in 1/2 cup of boiling water for 20 minutes. Strain well.
- Place the magnesium flakes into a jug and pour in the infused calendula water. Stir until the flakes have dissolved. Set aside.
- In another jug or glass mason jar add the beeswax and cocoa butter. Place the jar into a saucepan filled with about 6cm of water on medium heat and melt.
- Once the beeswax and cocoa butter have melted, carefully remove the jar from the saucepan and stir in the apricot kernel oil. Let cool slightly.
- To the blender add the magnesium water and turn speed to medium. Very slowly pour in the melted mixture in a fine stream. You will start to see a thick and creamy emulsion form. You may need to scrape the sides down as you go. Once you're happy with the texture, stop blending. Give it a mix through with a spoon to blend in any excess oils.
- Scoop into your desired storage jar and seal.
How to Use
Use after a shower and before bed. Avoid broken skin. As it contains magnesium, you may also feel a tingling sensation, but this is completely normal. This recipe makes enough to fill 1 x 220ml jar. This recipe contains water and doesn't contain preservatives, so store in a cool dry area or in the fridge and use within 2 months.Disclaimer
